While allowing users to voluntarily turn on 2-Step Verification (2SV) in Google Workspace is a step forward, it’s not enough to secure a school’s digital ecosystem. Without mandatory enforcement, many adult users—including staff and administrators—may delay or ignore enabling this critical protection, leaving accounts exposed to phishing, credential theft, and unauthorized access. School IT leaders must move from optional to enforced 2SV, making it a non-negotiable part of domain-wide security policy.
To strengthen protection even further, it’s essential to activate the “New User Enrollment Period” and “2SV Frequency” settings. These controls ensure that all users—especially new or returning staff—are required to enroll in 2SV immediately and are prompted consistently, preventing any gap in enforcement. When used together, these settings create a zero-trust foundation where identity verification is standard, not suggested.
At Get Set Tech, we specialize in designing secure Google Workspace environments tailored for education. From enforcing 2SV to configuring trusted device policies and access controls, we empower schools to operate with confidence—knowing their staff and student data are always protected.
